TAUNTON Town will begin their 2019/20 Bet Victor Southern League Premier Division South season with a trip to Gosport Borough on Saturday, August 10.

The league fixtures have been released this morning (Friday) and have handed Rob Dray's men a trip to Hampshire first up.

Taunton's first home game at the newly re-named Cygnet Healthcare Stadium is the following Wednesday (August 14) against Yate Town.

The Peacocks will welcome local rivals Tiverton Town on the August Bank Holiday (Monday, August 26), with the reverse fixture in Devon set for New Year's Day.

Boxing Day will see Town host Somerset rivals Weston-super-Mare, with the trip to Weston taking place on Easter Monday (April 13).

The fixtures against Truro City, which will see several Peacocks players taking on their former club, are on Wednesday, October 23 (home) and Saturday, March 7 (away).

Poole Town, who knocked Taunton out of the play-offs at the semi-final stage last season, visit Wordsworth Drive for the final home match of the season on Saturday, April 18.

Tonight (Friday), the Peacocks resume their pre-season friendlies with a trip to near neighbours Bridgwater Town.

The Peacocks cruised past Tavistock AFC 5-0 in their opening friendly on Tuesday night and head of football Rob Dray expects another stern examination from Tavistock’s fellow Western League side Bridgwater.

He said: “I expect a similar test, as they’re both good sides, maybe a bit more physical.

“We want it to be difficult, as we need to be on it from the first game.”

New signings Naby Diallo and Josh Grant were both in action on Tuesday, as was Harry Gardner, the Exeter City youngster who has returned from having trials in Spain.

Jack Rice, a former Yeovil Town prospect, was also in action as a triallist.

Ex-AFC Bournemouth player Matt Neale is expected to play at Bridgwater as another triallist, as is summer signing Jamie Short – but Ryan Brett (sore knee) and Jamie Price (holiday) will not.

Matt Wright, skipper for the past two seasons, captained the side at Tavistock and looks set to retain the armband for this season.
