JOS Buttler will not be returning to Somerset next season as the England star has put pen to paper on a new three-year deal at Lancashire.

The Taunton-born wicketkeeper-batsman, 28, had been strongly linked with a return to the club he  came through the ranks with and represented between 2009 and 2013.

That speculation has now been quashed by news of his new deal at Old Trafford, where he will remain until at least 2022.

Buttler told the Lancashire website: “I am delighted to commit my future to Lancashire Cricket for at least the next three seasons.

“I have enjoyed some fantastic times in a Lancashire shirt over the last six years and I am excited to experience more with the Club.

“Emirates Old Trafford is an incredible place to play cricket and the ambition the Club is showing both on and off the pitch is something I want to be a part of in the coming years.”
