BURNHAM-ON-SEA RFC play their first pre-season friendly tomorrow night, when Clevedon are the visitors (ko 7.30pm).

Kevin Innalls is staying on in his coaching role with the 1st XV, who will be captained by Ross McKechan for the third consecutive season.

They will be looking to build on an excellent 2018/19, which saw them finish as runners-up in Somerset Premier and win the Somerset Vase.

Tim James will lead the 2nd XV, who will again line up in Somerset 2 South, while team managers Lee Berry and Stephen Hall will continue to work with the two captains.

David Timms has taken over as junior chairman; this season’s junior signing-on day will take place on Saturday, September 1.

BROTHERS Mako and Billy Vunipola, who represented Burnham-on-Sea RFC as youngsters, have both been named in England’s 2019 World Cup squad.

Prop forward Mako, 28, has 56 caps to his name while number eight Billy, 26, has represented England on 41 occasions.

Both used to represent Burnham along with their uncle, Elisi, with Billy Vunipola telling The Telegraph in 2015 that he made his men’s debut for Burnham playing at inside centre, with Elisi at fly-half.

England are in Pool C alongside France, Argentina, Tonga and USA, and play their first match against Tonga in Sapporo on Sunday, September 22.
