FA Vase first qualifying round
Bishops Lydeard 1, Bodmin Town 3
BISHOPS Lydeard were knocked out of the FA Vase at the first hurdle after an entertaining and fast-moving cup match against visitors Bodmin Town.
The Bishops began well, playing with conviction and a good shape.
Charlie Wilson and Ben Hebditch had chances for the Bishops before Bodmin took the lead with a well worked break by Tallan Mitchell which was finished off by Dan Jennings.
The visitors went further ahead in the 14th minute with a 30-yard thunderbolt from Mitchell.
Bodmin's third came in the 29th minute with Max Gilbert firing home Dan Pethick's cross.
The home team pulled one back two minutes later with a superb Charlie Wilson effort.
The second half was hard fought with Charlie Wilson and Ryan Brereton going close for the Bishops and Pethrick for Bodmin but the two defences held firm and the game finished 3-1.
Lydeard are back in league action next Saturday away to Welton Rovers.
Wellington were also knocked out of the FA Vase on Saturday, going down 4-0 at Shepton Mallet.
