TAUNTON'S unbeaten prospect Pawel Augustynik will spar Olympian Joshua Buatsi as he enters the next stage of his fledgling career, writes Marc Gatford.

Augustnik's manager Chris Sanigar is preparing to progress the 24-year-old after signing him to a new three-year contract.

Sanigar said: "We've been very impressed by Pawel.

"It won't be long until he takes a step up, but there's a big leap from novice boxing to championship boxing."

Augustynik has travelled the country sparring quality operators to bridge the gap between journeyman opponents and the live contenders he'll soon be matched with.

The Taunton boxer has shared the ring with world title challenger Jamie Cox and former English champion Darryl Williams, helping him to develop as a fighter.

The light-heavyweight will now trade leather with one of the world's best prospects.

"We are taking him for top class sparring, which will be exciting for him," Sanigar added.

"I've been in touch with the Buatsi camp, a much higher standard, but that's who I would like him mixing with.

"A step up in class will get him to understand that he's a real prospect."

WBC international titleholder Joshua Buatsi is touted as a future world champion and is recognised as the next big thing in the light-heavyweight division.

The opportunity to go rounds with the Olympian will be hugely beneficial for Augustynik as he moves into the business end of his career.

"I expect him to fight for a British title," concluded Sanigar, who has high hopes for the Somerset starlet with nine straight victories in the professional ranks.

Tonight (Saturday) in Bristol, Augustynik will try to make it a perfect 10 on veteran Lee Haskin's undercard.
