Walton Casuals 1, Taunton Town 5

TAUNTON Town bounced back emphatically from their midweek defeat as they put Walton Casuals to the sword with a five-star showing.

Matt Wright scored twice, with Dan Sullivan, Harry Kite and Ed Palmer also finding the net on a comfortable afternoon for the Peacocks in the capital.

Taunton started on the front foot, Ryan Brett having one shot bloked and another saved before Andrew Neal screwed a shot narrowly wide on 17 minutes.

Walton saw a goal ruled out for offside on 26 minutes and the Peacocks added insult to injury by breaking the deadlock just two minutes later, Sullivan firing a left-footed shot past the goalkeeper from inside the area.

Then came a crazy spell of three goals in as many minutes as Wright doubled Town's lead, Walton pulled one back through Rene Howe before Kite promptly restored Taunton's two-goal advantage.

It stayed 3-1 until half-time and the points were all but secure just after the hour when a fine move saw Kite pick out substitute Jack Rice, whose cross was turned in from close range by Wright for his second of the afternoon.

Howe hit the post with an overhead kick as Walton looked for a response but Town put the incing on the cake with four minutes left, Palmer blasting home from 10 yards out.

The victory sets Taunton up nicely for Wednesday night's big game at home to Truro City (7.45pm).
