Vivary 41, Sydenham Gems 54

VIVARY made a good start, turning over Gems’ first centre pass and going ahead, but Gems quickly got into the game to take the lead at the end of the first quarter.

Despite Vivary’s best efforts, they struggled to find their flow, and Gems pulled away to record a 54-41 win.

Somerset Division 1

Bridgwater Neptune 36, Monmouth 56

MONMOUTH made a strong start, with some amazing feeds into their shooting circle, to take a 16-8 lead.

Neptune raised their defensive efforts in the second quarter, leading to Monmouth losing a few passes and struggling to get the ball to their shooters.

Despite Neptune closing the gap, Monmouth kept their lead (27-23).

Some position changes for the third quarter saw some great turnovers for Monmouth, who worked the ball down the centre court extremely swiftly and accurately, increasing their score by 16 goals (43-33).

Monmouth managed to maintain their 20-goal gap, but Neptune did not give up in the final quarter and had some amazing shots.

Monmouth finished by notching up another impressive win 56-36.

Keinton Kites 50, Quantock 34

QUANTOCK worked well as a team, ending the first quarter leading 14-11.

Kites hit back in the second quarter to take the lead at half-time (21-25).

Despite Quantock continuing to battle, with good interceptions and controlled passing up the court, it wasn’t enough for them to regain the lead.

Knockout Cup

Blackdown 30, Galmington Queensway 56

Blackdown, played Galmington’s Queensway in the preliminary round of the Knockout Cup.

Queensway came out strong and led 11-9 at the end of the first quarter.

Siobhan Cleverly offered great support up the court, feeding the shooting circle with pinpoint accuracy, but Queensway extended their lead (15-27).

The third quarter was Blackdown’s best quarter defensively, with Helen Cleverly, Sophia Valmiki and Sarah Hughes working well together to limit Queensway’s scoring opportunities (21-40).

Some positional changes in the final quarter helped Blackdown come out fighting, gaining tips and interceptions, but Queensway held their initial lead to claim the win (30-56).

Taunton’s under-14s and under-12s were also in action at their respective seeding tournaments for the Somerset Junior League.

The under-14s won all their games and will play in Division 1 this season and both under 12 teams played well, trying out different positions and improving as a team.
