MADDIE Hinch will have the chance to defend the gold medal she won with Great Britain at the Rio 2016 Olympics, as GB booked their spot at the Tokyo games by beating Chile in their Olympic qualifying play-off.

GB won the first leg 3-0 on Saturday, and finished the job with a 2-1 victory on Sunday – scoring their two goals in the opening seven minutes at Lee Valley in London.

Goalkeeper Hinch, who studied at Kings College in Taunton from 2002 to 2007, put in a match-winning performance in the Olympic final three years ago – saving all four penalties in the shoot-out against the Netherlands to earn GB the gold medal.

She announced that she would be taking a break from international hockey in September 2018, but the 31-year-old (and three-time FIH world goalkeeper of the year award winner) confirmed she would return to action with England and Great Britain in May of this year.
