RICHARD Huish College's netball team have started the season with a bang, winning the Under-19 County Schools tournament which qualifies them for the South West regional competition in the New Year.

Hosted at Taunton School, Huish fought off tough competition to come out on top, ahead of Taunton School (runners-up) and Millfield School (third).

Going one better than last year, this is the first time in 18 years that the Huish team have won this competition.

The team, which is made up of a mixture of lower and upper sixth students, currently play in the AoC Sport Premier Netball league, where they compete against some of the best teams in the country.

Coach Cath Clark said: “The success of the Huish Sport Netball team is going from strength to strength and is full credit to the hard work and effort that the girls and coaches put in week and week out.”

The netballers also benefit from the Huish Sport enrichment programme which allows students additional training sessions to develop playing netball at a high level; contact Mike Ryan at mikery@richuish.ac.uk for more details on this programme.
