FORMER Taunton Town boss Leigh Robinson is back in Southern League management, after agreeing to take over at the Peacocks' fellow Premier South side Dorchester Town.

Robinson began his management career at Wellington and then Bridgwater Town, before succeeding Paul West at Wordsworth Drive in August 2012.

He led the Peacocks to promotion to Southern League Premier level in 2017/18, but then departed for National League South side Truro City.

Robinson and assistant manager Michael Meaker were sacked by Truro in March 2019, and Robinson joined Helston AFC as assistant to Steve Massey.

With Jody Rivers resigning as Dorchester's interim manager - the Magpies sitting second from bottom in the Premier South table - Exeter-based Robinson has now been appointed as the club's first team manager.

Robinson told the Dorchester Town website: "Really pleased to be given the opportunity to manage this football club with all its history, fantastic set-up and obvious potential.

"Clearly this season hasn’t gone as well as anyone at the club would have liked and no question about it we have a relegation scrap on our hands, but there are still points to play for and a couple of wins changes everything in football in terms of the energy, momentum and confidence.”

“There is obviously a lot of work to do on the footballing side as the squad needs more numbers as well as improving, and this is something we have to address urgently.

"That said, there are still plenty of good players here and the team does have goals in it, so there is something to work with.

"We basically need to look at this as a four-month season in isolation, try and forget what’s gone before, scrap for our lives during this period, get the fans onside and see where that takes us.”

Robinson is joined by Robbie Herrera, as the club's first team coach and head of development.

Herrera represented QPR, Fulham and Torquay United in his playing days - as well as a spell at Taunton - and for the last two years he has been part of Plymouth Argyle's academy set-up.

Robinson and Herrera will take charge of Dorchester as they travel to basement side Beaconsfield Town tomorrow, and they are scheduled to visit Taunton on Saturday, April 11.
