TAUNTON Town's new signing Luke Spokes could make his debut against Chesham United on Saturday, as the fifth-placed Peacocks visit the league leaders (3pm).

The Peacocks this week moved to snap up the midfielder, who scored twice in Yate's 4-0 win at Taunton in August and also impressed in the reverse fixture, a 4-1 Yate win, earlier this month.

Peacocks boss Rob Dray said: “Physically he’s a great size, he’s quick and he’s good on set-pieces.

“We’ve seen how dangerous he is against us this season.”

They will expect a reaction from their hosts this weekend, as Chesham were beaten 4-1 at Yate on Tuesday night.

That loss was the Generals’ second defeat in nine games since the start of December (they lost 3-2 at Salisbury on January 4), and having won the other seven they sit a point clear at the top.

The Peacocks go into the match in fifth, nine points behind the leaders but having played two fewer games.

David Pearce has 12 league goals for Chesham this season, with Karl Oliyide close behind on 11.

The reverse fixture back in August saw Town pick up their first points of the season, winning 3-2 having been beaten in each of their two opening league games.

Matt Wright - who was dropped to the bench in last weekend's win over Wimborne - netted a brace on that occasion, with Harry Kite bundling home the winner in the first game of his loan spell from Exeter City.
