Swindon Supermarine 1, Taunton Town 2

TAUNTON Town came from behind to leapfrog hosts Swindon Supermarine and climb to fourth in the table after an excellent win in Wiltshire on Saturday.

The Peacocks started the game brightly and captain Matt Wright saw a header flash just wide of the post in the opening 10 minutes.

Shortly afterwards, Dan Sullivan's side-footed effort came back off the bar as the visitors continued to apply early pressure.

They could not capitalise on it, however, and the hosts broke the deadlock on 34 minutes when Connor McDonagh kept his cool to round Lloyd Irish and slot into the net.

Early in the second half it was Supermarine's turn to hit the woodwork, with Brad Hooper unlucky to see his 25-yard volley come back off the upright with Irish helpless - the rebound was put in by McDonagh but the flag denied him and the home side a second goal.

Town were back on terms 10 minutes into the second period through Ryan Brett, who dispatched a penalty into the top corner after Sullivan had been bundled over by a home defender.

Brett came close to doubling his tally but send a thunderous right-footed effort narrowly wide before Ollie Chamberlain just failed to get a strong enough connection on Ross Staley's teasing cross and sent his header wide.

Chamberlain then turned provider, with some persistent work down the left enabling him to find Sullivan, who took a touch before firing home from just inside the area in front of Town's travelling support to put the visitors in front with 22 minutes to play.

McDonagh curled an ambitious shot wide as Supermarine looked to earn a share of the spoils, but Town battled hard to see out what could turn out to be a vital away victory.

Next up for Taunton is a trip to Merthyr Town on Tuesday night before the visit of Salisbury next Saturday.
