TAUNTON footballer Emily Syme came off the bench twice for England Under-21s last week, as they recorded two wins over their French counterparts at St George’s Park.

Syme, formerly of Bishops Lydeard and Richard Huish College, now plies her trade with Aston Villa Women - earning a call-up to Rehanne Skinner’s U21 squad for these friendly matches.

Syme came on after 67 minutes of the first game, which England won 1-0, and entered the fray at half-time in the second match, helping England turn a 1-0 lead into a 2-0 victory.

ASH Rangers Ladies stormed back from 2-0 down at half-time to beat Portishead Reserves on Sunday, and set up a Somerset FA Women’s Junior Cup final clash with Bishops Lydeard Reserves.

The home side sprinted into a 2-0 lead inside the opening 20 minutes of the semi-final, but Ash then took control of the game.

The match was level at 2-2 with five minutes left, but two more goals for the visitors secured a 4-2 victory.

Sarah Gregory, Kirsty Shepherd and Harriet Kelly (2) got the goals for Ash.

They will now face fellow Somerset Women’s League Division 1 side Lydeard Reserves - who beat Frome Town 4-0 in their semi-final last month - for the silverware.

Ash train on Tuesday evenings (8.30pm) at the Heathfield astro pitch - contact manager Sam Tawfik (07443 864788) for more details.
