COUNTY cricket is set to welcome fans back into grounds before the end of the 2020 season, but it is not yet known whether any of Somerset County Cricket Club's fixtures will be included.
The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has confirmed several events, across a number of sports, where spectators would be admitted on a socially-distanced basis.
As well as basketball, football, horse racing, rugby union and speedway, cricket features on the list of 'pilot events' which can admit a limited number of spectators over the rest of August and into September.
Matches in the Bob Willis Trophy (four-day competition) and Vitality Blast (T20 group games) are being considered for selection, but the specific venues and fixtures are yet to be confirmed.

That means that Somerset fans will have to wait a little longer to find out whether they will be able to attend one of their team's fixtures - at the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton, or away from home - for the first time in 2020.
Somerset's home matches in the T20 competition are on Tuesday, September 1 (against Glamorgan), Friday, September 4 (Birmingham Bears), Friday, September 11 (Worcestershire Rapids), Sunday, September 13 (Gloucestershire) and Friday, September 18 (Northants Steelbacks).
