Pre-season friendly match
Taunton Town 3, Chippenham Town 1

TAUNTON Town won their first home friendly ahead of the 2020/21 season, as goals from Gethyn Hill, Nick Grimes and Toby Holmes earned them a 3-1 victory over National League South side Chippenham Town on Friday night.

Peacocks fans were allowed back into the Cygnet Health Care Stadium for the first time since the coronavirus lockdown, but they had to wait an extra 30 minutes as kick-off was delayed due to M5 traffic.

The opening goal of the game arrived after 20 minutes, as Hill volleyed in from range after intercepting a loose ball.

Chippenham were level just three minutes later, though, with Luke Russe curling the ball home after a short corner routine.

Owen Howe saw a header saved and Jake Wannell another cleared off the line, as it stayed 1-1 at half-time.

The Peacocks went back ahead on 65 minutes, when Jay Foulston's corner was cleared only as far as Grimes, who drove the ball home.

And the win was wrapped up with two minutes left, as substitute Toby Holmes picked up Ross Staley's pass and found the top corner.
