TAUNTON Town have been drawn at home to Wantage Town in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup.

The game is to be played on Tuesday, September 22 (7.45pm), and with no replays in this year's competition, it will be decided on the night - by penalties if necessary.

Opponents Wantage play one level below the Peacocks, in Division 1 Central of the Southern League, and beat Windsor 3-2 to progress through the Cup's preliminary round.

This match follows Taunton's league opener away to Hayes & Yeading United on Saturday (September 19, 3pm).

The Peacocks concluded their pre-season campaign with a 2-1 victory over National League side Yeovil Town on Friday night.

Taunton took the lead on the half-hour at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium, as new team captain Nick Grimes steered home a corner from Dan Sullivan - the newly-appointed vice-captain.

Rhys Murphy squandered a chance to level at the start of the second half, hitting the post from the penalty spot, and the hosts went 2-0 up just before the hour, when Ross Staley's shot was parried by Adam Smith, and Gethyn Hill converted the rebound.

The visitors pulled one back with 12 minutes to go, as Luke Wilkinson headed in from a Matt Worthington corner, but the Peacocks were not to be denied victory.

One of the players to feature in the Yeovil match, Dan McBeam, has signed for Taunton after impressing on trial.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder came through Reading's youth set-up, before moving on to Barnsley in 2018 and then Mangotsfield United last season.
