Friday was the closing of the domestic transfer window in England as clubs looked to put the finishing touches to their 2020/21 Championship squads.

Although open to sign free agents, any loans or permanent transfers withing England had to be confirmed by 5pm last Friday. Reading saw one departure as Sam Smith left for Tranmere Rovers but there was more action across the league.

Below we take a look at the business conducted by the rest of the clubs in England’s second tier.

Bournemouth confirmed the loan signing of Cameron Carter-Vickers while Barnsley welcomed Matty James on loan from Leicester City.

The Tykes also confirmed the permanent signing of Herbie Kane from Liverpool while talisman Cauley Woodrow committed his future to the Yorkshire side.

There was loan news from Birmingham as the Blues re-signed Jake Clarke-Salter on loan from Chelsea for a second season. As he arrived, Jayden Reid went to Barrow and Odin Bailey to Forest Green Rovers on loan deals.

Blackburn Rovers were one of the busier clubs on deadline day with a host of arrivals. They confirmed a permanent deal for goalkeeper Aynsley Pears from Middlesbrough while they also welcomed three loan signings.

Harvey Elliott, Barry Douglas and Tom Trybull arrive in Lancashire from Liverpool, Leeds and Norwich respectively. With the arrival of Pears, it gave room for Andy Fisher to leave Rovers on a free transfer heading to MK Dons while Charlie Mulgrew was picked up by Fleetwood Town on a loan deal.

The biggest transfer of deadline day fell to Brentford as Said Benrahma departed for West Ham. The Algerian initially joins the Hammers on a £5 million loan deal with an option to buy for a further £20 million plus add-ons.

It was a quiet time for Bristol City as they limited their business to two farewells. Joe Morrell headed to Luton Town on a permanent deal while Kasey Palmer joined Swansea City on a loan deal.

Cardiff City were busy on deadline day as they made the most of the time before a possible Welsh lockdown. Dillon Phillips crossed the Severn Bridge signing from Charlton Athletic while Filip Benkovic joined on loan from Leicester City.

They also welcomed Harry Wilson on loan from Liverpool while Aden Flint departed on a temporary deal to Sheffield Wednesday.

Championship newbies Coventry City were surprisingly quiet with only Brandon Mason departing on loan to St Mirren while Derby’s day differed in activity levels.

With the Rams playing on deadline day, they conducted business early welcoming free agent Colin Kazim-Richards back to England on Thursday while Florian Josefzoon departed on loan to Rotherham.

The only deadline day deal involving them was Jack Marriott joining Sheffield Wednesday on loan.

Huddersfield failed to welcome any arrivals on deadline day but did confirm the free signing of Alex Vallejo on Monday.

Terrence Kongolo re-joined Fulham making a loan deal permanent while Micah Obiero headed for a loan spell with Carlisle. There big business was conducted a few days earlier as Karlan Grant completed a rumoured £25 million move to West Brom.

As well as Morrell arriving at Luton Town, they also agreed loan deals for Sam Nombe from MK Dons and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester City while Peter Kioso departed for Bolton and Andrew Shinnie heads for Charlton on loan deals.

Middlesbrough sent Stephen Walker on loan to MK Dons and they had bad news as a deal for Everton’s Yannick Bolasie failed to materialise.

Millwall welcomed Ken Zohore on loan from West Brom while all was quiet at Norwich. It was one in, one out at Nottingham Forest as Anthony Knockaert arrived from Fulham while Virgil Gomis joined up with Grimsby.

It was all quiet at Preston while QPR conducted business early. Charlie Kelman arrived at Loftus Road from Southend while Paul Smyth, Olamide Shodipo and Aramide Oteh joined Charlton, Oxford and Stevenage on loan respectively.

At Rotherham, Jamie Proctor departed on loan for Newport County while Curtis Tilt joined Wigan on a similar deal. Stoke City had two departures as Jack Butland was sold to Crystal Palace for £1 million and Tom Edwards signed on loan for Fleetwood.

Swansea City were the busiest of all the Championship sides on deadline day with four arrivals. As well as Palmer from Bristol City, Ryan Bennett, Joel Latibeaudiere and Ryan Manning signed on permanent deals.

Manning joins from QPR while Bennett moves from Leicester and Latibeaudiere from Manchester City. Welsh international defender Joe Rodon also completed a £12 million deal to Tottenham Hotspur.

Finally, Watford released Daryl Janmaat while earlier in the week defender Craig Dawson completed a loan switch to West Ham.

There was also action for some former Royals. Adrian Popa signed with FC Voluntari after being a free agent since his release from Reading while former loanee Josh Sims joined Doncaster Rovers on loan from Southampton.

Former Royals favourite Adam Le Fondre also moved to India to play for Mumbai City, another club in the City Group portfolio.
