TAUNTON Town have announced the signing of a new defender, ahead of tonight's Southern League match with Dorchester Town.

The Peacocks have snapped up 22-year-old right-back Jack Goodall from fellow Southern League Premier South side Weston-super-Mare, and he will provide competition for Jamie Short on the right-hand side of the Town defence.

Goodall is a product of Weston's academy, making his first team debut in 2018, while also spending spells out on loan at Bridgwater Town, Mangotsfield United Shepton Mallet and Slimbridge.

The new recruit could be in contention to play against Dorchester tonight (Tuesday, 7.45pm), as the Peacocks aim to bounce back from two consecutive defeats.

Taunton suffered their first league loss of the season against Metropolitan Police 10 days ago, and they were beaten 5-0 by Tonbridge Angels in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Centre-back Jake Wannell is available before his one-game suspension - having been sent off at Tonbridge - kicks in this coming weekend.

Dorchester, who are managed by ex-Peacocks boss Leigh Robinson, come into the match off the back of a 6-1 thumping by Salisbury on Saturday.

Robinson was Taunton manager from 2012 to 2018, at which point he left for Truro City, who were then a National League South side.
