THE Britannia Lanes Taunton & District Saturday League has made the decision to void the 2020/21 league season - but it is offering a one-off competition in its place.

There have been no league matches since December 12, owing to the Covid-19 pandemic and latest lockdown, and the last cup match was a 4-2 win for North Curry over Dulverton Town in the Rowbarton Charity Cup on December 18.

The one-off competition sees teams divided into five groups, as follows:

Group A - Wembdon, Westonzoyland, Staplegrove Crusaders, Wyvern, Bridgwater Sports, North Petherton, Fivehead Athletic

Group B - Galmington Dragons, Creech Cougars, North Curry, Stogursey, Wellington A, Redgate, Staplegrove Spartans

Group C - Porlock, Alcombe Rovers, White Eagles, Minehead Reserves, Wembdon Reserves, Norton Fitzwarren, Watchet Reserves

Group D - Bridgwater Grasshoppers, Middlezoy Athletic, Nether Stowey, Bridgwater Wolves, Bridgwater Sports Reserves, Fivehead Athletic Reserves, Galmington Reserves, North Petherton Reserves

Group E - Old Inn, Porlock Reserves, Wellington Reds, Minehead Colts, Bridgwater & Albion, Exmoor Rangers, Norton Fitzwarren Reserves

The league organisers also confirmed that the Seward and Knock Out Cups will continue, with fixture details being sent out to clubs in due course.

THE Keyline Somerset Sunday League has also decided to void its season, following a committee meeting held last Wednesday evening.

This decision applied to both league and cup fixtures, as the committee felt that the league needed to complete the season if it did restart, and the integrity of that season “must be protected”, and they “could not guarantee both these criteria could be met”.

The league statement added that teams had voiced concerns over being able to field sufficient players, with a later finish to the season also clashing with the start of recreational cricket in Somerset.

The league committee also confirmed that no one-off cup competition would take place, but added that “any clubs wishing to organise and play non-competitive fixtures are welcome to do so”.

The focus of the committee now turns to making the 2021/22 season a successful one.
