THREE King’s College pupils Sonny Baker, James Rew and George Thomas have been selected in the 18-strong England Under 19 squad to play in a one-day series against the West Indies, which gets underway this weekend.

Sonny is an 18-year-old paceman, who hails from Torquay and who joined King’s on a sport scholarship in Year 9, while top order left-handed batsman wicket-keeper James, and George, who is a hard-hitting batting all-rounder, both live locally and previously attended King’s Hall School.

All three have been part of the Somerset Academy and have played first team cricket for Somerset this summer, while Sonny has recently signed a two-year professional contract with the county side.

In addition to the three who have been selected, George’s 16-year-old brother Josh has been placed on standby in case of injury.

Director of sport at King’s College, Phil Lewis said: “This is a wonderful achievement for the boys and a very proud moment for the school. This is without doubt the first time in the school’s history we have had three international players in the same team (possibly four!).”

He added: “The fact that two of these pupils came from King's Hall shows the progress we have made with our programme across both schools and I am delighted for all the staff who have played a part in their development, both as people and sports performers”.
