SOMERSET CCC captain Tom Abell has announced he will play for Brisbane Heat in this winter’s KFC Big Bash League.

The 27-year-old said he is very excited to get out to Australia.

“I can’t wait to get out to Australia and join up with the Heat franchise.”

“I am really excited by the opportunity, and I am looking forward to getting stuck in and doing my bit for the team," he said.

Abell will return to Somerset in 2022 ahead of the season, but for now he continues the long-standing connection between the Heat and Somerset.

In the past, his Somerset teammates Tom Banton and Lewis Gregory have represented the Brisbane Heat in the BBL.

Somerset director of cricket Andy Hurry said that everyone at the club is excited to see Tom compete in Australia.

"This is a great opportunity for Tom to further develop his game alongside some of the best players and coaches in the world."

"We look forward to seeing Tom perform well in one of the biggest competitions in the world and bringing his learnings back to the Cooper Associates County Ground in readiness for the new season," Hurry said.
