TAUNTON Town have advanced into the third round of the Southern League Cup after a 3-1 win over Truro City on Tuesday.

It was a solid performance from the Peacocks in front of 317 home fans at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium.

After the match manager Rob Dray said he was please to see such a strong performance.

"I think it was a very important win to build some confidence up, there was a lot of really good performances from us."

"This is the only cup competition we are left in so we want to go as far as we can in it," Dray said.

New signing Joe Dubb made his debut for the club and Josh Thomas made his home debut on the night, both of which impressed.

"Joe Budd is a good signing for us as he can fill a number of midfield positions and he played well tonight," said Dray.

"Josh Thomas is a powerful player and a good addition to our squad as well, it was good to see him play well in his home debut."

Goals in the match came through Jake Wannell, Jay Foulston and Jared Lewington for Taunton, while Zac Hartley scored the solo Truro goal.

Wannell opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a header from a corner, something that he has made a habit of in recent weeks.

The lead was doubled shortly after in the 19th minute when Jay Foulston worked his way past two defenders and finished in to the bottom right corner from the edge of the box.

A third goal came on the 26th minute mark, again from a corner, this time is was Lewington with the final touch.

The second half saw some substitutions and Taunton control the pace of the game to see how the win.

Truro did fight back but left it far too late to really mount a challenge.

Their goal came off the back off some possession and a deflected Hartley shot beat Will Buse in the Taunton net.

Up next for Town is another away trip, this time they face an in-form Yate Town on Saturday November 13, kick off is 3pm.
