EVERYBODY knows Taunton Town has an impressive pitch that always looks in tip top condition.
But how do they keep it in such good condition? We asked the clubs new assistant groundsman Rob Hake what the secret is.

"The secret is really just hard work," Rob said.

"Our team is down here basically every day of the week cutting and treating the grass to have it in top condition for a match day.

"We have put some seaweed and other amino acid based products down this season so I guess that could be the scoop."

Taunton Town brought Rob in at the start of the season to help head groundsman and chairman Kevin Sturmey.

"It has been great time working for Taunton Town; Kevin brought me in to help out and we really have the pitch looking top quality here," said Rob.

Taunton have not had that many home games this season so the pitch is still in top shape, despite the winter weather.

Rob said you really cannot undermine the dedication the ground staff have for their pitch.

"Honestly you can try new equipment and tools but the key to having a good pitch is hard work as I have said already, this team work hard."

Rob has previously worked for the Somerset County Cricket Club for 16 years and Enmore Park Golf Club prior to that.

He has been a groundsman since 2001 and as you can imagine is a suitable candidate to keep the pitch at Cygnet Health Care Stadium in top condition.
