TAUNTON Town have extended their unbeaten run to five games after a 2-1 home win against Hartley Wintney yesterday at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium.

It was an end-to-end game with plenty of chances for both sides but it was Taunton who scored an extra time winner through club top goalscorer Gethyn Hill.

After the match, manager Rob Dray said a win is a win.

"It is all about the win today, we weren't at our best but we got the result and that is what matters.

"They (Hartley Wintney) came here and played very well, and you could argue they deserved more from the game but it was our turn for a last minute winner," Dray said.

"If I am honest, there was a lot of things that were not right from us today and the players all know that."

Before the match, the mood amongst the 423 strong crowd was that Taunton would be run away winners.

However in the 9th minute Hartley shocked the home fans when they opened the scoring from a well placed shot from Jordan Edwards on the edge of the box.

And it could have been a lot worse just three minutes later when Will Buse and Ben Adelsbury got in each others way and Kofi Halliday was through to an empty net.

If it wasn't for Ioan Richards' last ditch goal saving tackle it would have been two nil to the visitors; truly, it is hard to describe in words how good a tackle this was from the centre back.

From there, Taunton woke up and regained their shape across the pitch; they started creating chance after chance from open play and set pieces.

In the 28th minute from a Jay Foulston corner, Toby Holmes headed it from the back post across the face of the goal and captain Nick Grimes volleyed it home for an equaliser.

Despite further chances from either side there was no more goals in the first half and at the break it was 1-1.

The second period continued in a similar way with both sides playing some good attacking football but no end product.

It has to be said Taunton were creating the better quality chances and the power of the home crowd was definitely playing a part on proceedings.

As the time wound down on the clock, the home fans got louder and louder, encouraging the Peacocks to push further forward for a winner.

Ollie Chamberlain, Ross Stearn and Jay Foulston all forced keeper Thomas Williams into three separate saves but the winning goal did not come until the 93rd minute.

From another set piece, Ross Stearn sent the ball into the six yard line and Ioan Richards headed the ball onto the post, but Gethyn Hill was the quickest to react and slammed the ball in.

The crowd went wild over the winning goal and the players earned themselves an all important three points that takes them to seventh place in the Pitching In Southern League.
