THE Peacocks extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to 11 games when they beat Paulton Rovers 4-1 in an entertaining Southern League Challenge Cup quarter final at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium on Tuesday.

With a reshuffled side due to players being unavailable through sickness or injury, Taunton got off to a bad start conceding after just the fourth minute.

Liban Ibrahim’s blocked shot fell to David O’Hare who netted past Will Buse to send Paulton in front.

Taunton woke up from then on and dominated possession for the rest of the match, the problem they had was finding the back of the net.

However they did equalise in the 27th minute through Dan Sullivan, he tucked the ball into the corner from the centre of the box.

Ollie Chamberlain put Town in front five minutes before the break when he tapped in from close range following a Sullivan cross and at the break it was 2-1 to Taunton.

The second half started as the first ended with the hosts quickly adding a third goal after, this time through Ross Staley, he fired home at the far post after Sullivan’s shot had deflected to him.

The Peacock’s progress was confirmed after 63 minutes when Nick Grimes’ shot reached substitute Acey Mead who went down under a challenge but recovered well to slot past Aaron Sainsbury.

Later, Mead headed on to the post while Buse made several smart saves as the Peacocks reached the Semi-Final of the competition for the first time in their history.

This win, as mentioned, sees Taunton extend their unbeaten run to eleven games in all competitions.

At the weekend just gone, The Peacocks secured their third Southern League double of the season with a 3-1 victory over Wimborne Town at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium.

It was a workmanlike performance from the home side who took the lead on 13 minutes when Ollie Chamberlain ran in to head home Jay Foulston’s corner at the near post.

Taunton doubled their advantage on the half hour with a fine individual goal from Gethyn Hill who sliced through the Wimborne defence before firing past Gerard Benfield.

Ross Stearn was unlucky not to add a third in the early part of the second half when he was denied by the post, but a third goal soon arrived after 56 minutes when Toby Holmes slotted past Benfield via a deflection off Callum Chugg.

Up next for the fourth placed Taunton is an away trip to face Beaconsfield Town in the Southern League, kick off is 3pm on Saturday.
