TAUNTON Town have extended their unbeaten run to thirteen games after a 2-1 home win against Kings Langley earlier today (January 29).

The match at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium saw 619 fans watch on as two Toby Holmes penalty goals send Taunton to another win in the Pitching In Southern League.

Manager Rob Dray said it was a professional performance.

"I think we had a really solid game today, we were professional, especially in the second half when we defended out the win.

"At the moment it is all about winning for us and that is what we did today."

In the early exchanges in the match Taunton were well on top, both wing backs, Zac Smith and Dan Sullivan were able to get forward to whip in crosses.

It was from one of these crosses that Taunton got the ball into the net for the first time; Gethyn Hill rising highest to meet it and head home, however the referee deemed him to foul a defender in the process and it was ruled out.

However just two minutes later in the ninth minute Hill was brought down in the box and Town were awarded a penalty.

Toby Holmes stepped up and calmly slotted the ball into the bottom right corner.

Skip forward to the 13th minute and Ross Stearn was brought down in the box after he nutmegged the defender; Kyle O'Connor-Ajayi giving away his second penalty in less than five minutes.

This time Toby Holmes outsmarted the keeper and sent the ball to the opposite corner to the first and put Taunton 2-0 up.

The Peacocks stayed on the attack for nearly the entire half and were by far and away the better team.

However in the 42nd minute Kings Langley did pull a goal back when after the ball bounced around from a corner, Ferrell Charles half volleyed past Will Buse in goal.

At the break the score was 2-1 and a solid defensive display from Taunton in the second period kept it that way.

Both sides had chances in the final 45 minutes to score, in particular Ben Adelsbury headed wide from a corner twice for Taunton.

Jamie Jellis hit a free kick just to the left of the goal for Kings Langley late in the game but as mentioned already the defence was solid.

Captain Nick Grimes, Ben Adelsbury and the returning Jake Wannell all played well at the back and at defensive midfield Lloyd James picked up man of the match.

Unfortunately striker Gethyn Hill was rushed off to hospital after he came off for a head collision with the opposition goalkeeper.

Rob Dray said: "Gethyn has been taken to hospital, he came off the pitch very dazed and we just hope he will be okay and not out for a long time."

Up next Taunton are at home on Tuesday night, February 2, against Salisbury, kick off is 7.45pm.
