Royston Town 5-0 Taunton Town (7-0 on aggregate)

TAUNTON Town have lost the second leg and in turn the Southern League Challenge Cup Final by a very impressive Royston Town side.

The much-changed Peacocks side were comfortably beaten on the night despite the young players stepping up all putting in a solid performance.

Rob Dray said after the match: "Congratulations to them. They obviously deserve the win over the two legs.

We all know the reasons why we played the team we played tonight, we have bigger league games to play and that is where we switch our focus.

"I think after Saturday a little switch flicked in the players and now they actually believe they can do this now.

"We have to turn up on Saturday now."

Royston opened the scoring on 24 minutes when Brandon Adams latched onto a knockdown to fire past Connor Sidley-Adams.

Matt Bateman headed in Ronnie Henry’s cross to double the lead after 42 minutes before the Crows added three more after the break.

Taunton did create some chances but in large Royston were on top in front of their record crowd of 1,335.

Devonte Aransibia scored twice, slotting in on 66 minutes after Spyros Mentis had returned the ball into the middle and then netting from James Brighton’s cross on 78 minutes.

This was all before Tom Newman scored from a free kick seven minutes from time to round off the scoring.

Taunton Town return to the Cygnet Health Care Stadium this Saturday, when they host Weston-super-Mare in a local derby, kick off is 3pm.
