Taunton CC 1st XI 314 / 9 (50.0) vs North Petherton CC Saturday League 1st XI 187 / All out (37.2)

WILLIAM Abell fine knock of 144 helped Taunton Cricket Club to defeat North Petherton at the weekend by 127 runs.

In his innings Abell hit 21 fours and 4 sixes as he opened the batting in the home match for Taunton.

His fellow opener Solly Woodall was dismissed for 1 run however Dan Quick came in at third and he and Abell built a strong partnership.

Choosing to bat first seemed to be the correct choice for Taunton as they cruised to a total of 314 runs off 50 overs.

In reply North Petherton opener Tom Lott made a good start, he hit 46 off 28 balls before being dismissed.

The rest of the top order fell cheaply however Tom Williams added a solid 42 runs to the total.

However the North Petherton batsman struggled to deal with Sam Toohey; the bowler took 5 wickets for 41 runs off just 7.2 overs.

The win leaves Taunton Cricket Club in 4th place in the WEPL Somerset League and for North Petherton, they now sit in 7th place.
