TAUNTON St Andrews notched up their first win since returning to the top flight of the West of England Premier League when they travelled up the M5 and  beat Thornbury by 63 runs and it was thanks to half centuries from 14 year old Thomas Rew and Jay Terry, who is three years his senior.

After being put into bat first at The Ship Field the visitors lost opener James Regan with nine on the board which brought Terry to the wicket, and together with Steve Tinnion he helped the total onto 44 when the opener was out for 20.

Another youngster Josh Thomas was out for 10 after which former skipper Lloyd Alley joined Terry and the fourth wicket pair added 60 together.

Terry and Rew shared a partnership of 35 before the senior of the two was out for 60 which came off 80 balls and included seven fours.

Rew then added 31 for the sixth wicket with Toby Williams-Thomas who hit 20,  and 34 for the seventh with Craig Dourado who made 17.

Rew and last man Justin Burke, who is the oldest member of the team and also Saints captain then remained together for the rest of the innings by which time the total had moved onto 265 for nine.

Rew remained unbeaten on 65 off 79 deliveries with six 4s while Burke ended not out 22 from 10 balls with a four and two sixes.

When Thornbury batted they struggled early on  as Matt Liberman struck twice and at 71 for six looked like being bowled out for under three figures.

However the home skipper Marc Lezar who came to the wicket at the fall of the fourth wicket then blasted his way to 101 off 53 balls with seven fours and nine 6s before being run out by Craig Dourado, after which there was little further resistance and Thornbury were all out for 202 in the 40th over.
