Taunton Town 0-0 Welling United
TAUNTON Town have their first ever pointย on the National League South table after they started the season with a 0-0 draw against Welling United.
The match at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium saw 813 keen fans watch history as the Peacocks started their journey in this new division.
Both sides had chances to win the game, however it would be fair to say Taunton will be pleased with a point and can use it as a building block going forward.
In the early exchanges, Welling took the game to the hosts and created a few chances however new signing Jack Bycroft was ready and made some key saves.
As the half progressed, Town settled into the match and started to create for themselves.
Jake Wannell saw his shot go narrowly over the bar in the 36th minute and shortly after Nick McCootie beat the last man and missed the target.

Going into the second period, the Peacocks thought they had a penalty when McCootie was bundled over in the 47th minute however it wasn't given.
Welling kept pushing forward though and probably should have scored after a hectic goalmouth scramble that somehow stayed out of the net.
Lee Lucas made his long-awaited return to the pitch in the 79th minute which was great to see however the deadlock would remain until full time.
Overall, a good start in this challenging league for Taunton Town against a tough opposition.
Up next is an away trip to face Concord Rangers on August 13.
