FA Cup: Shepton Mallet 3-2 Blackfield and Langley

SHEPTON Mallet made hard work of making it through to the next round of the FA Cup, but despite not being at their best in the second half of the Tuesday evening replay, the 3-2 score line did justify Shepton Mallet travelling to Weston Super Mare in the next round a week on Saturday, September 17th.

It was the visitors however who made the early breakthrough as Clayd Roach gave Blackfield and Langley that early advantage with a shot that eluded in the Shepron Mallet goal, it was the first time the talented shot stopper had been beaten in six outings.

Shepton Mallet however got themselves back on level terms on 10 minutes as a Braeden Symes cross was brilliantly headed home by the returning Conrad Peck.

The home side appeared to be upping the tempo in good fashion and they were to take the lead for the first time on 19 minutes as Aaron Seviour did well to turn his marker on the edge of the visitors penalty area, before firing a superb left foot shot beyond the diving Connor Maseko in the visitors goal.

Shepton Mallet gave themselves a two goal cushion before the half hour mark as Seviour once again caused danger to the visitors defence with a superb run and cross into the box and although Maseko did well to punch the ball clear, the ball ricochet of the body of Fin Haines who did well to remain calm in bundling the ball into the back of the visitors net.

Joe Morgan was unlucky to see one terrific effort come back into play having struck the inside of a post with a thunderous effort midway through the second half, but it was the visitors who created the most opportunities in the second half and they were rewarded in time added on at the end of the game with a Charlie Rattley fierce low drive from 15 yards.

The home side struggled to some extent in the second half, but overall deserved their victory.
