Wiveliscombe 1st XV 45 Plymstock Albion Oaks 15

Wiveliscombe returned to winning ways with this convincing victory over their visitors from Plymouth.

This was the first ever fixture between the two clubs so both teams looked to assess each other's strengths and weaknesses early on. The two packs were evenly matched but Wivey's backs looked to have the edge with ball in hand.

Wiveliscombe took the lead with a try from influential winger Sam Gibbs making a strong run down the top touchline. Plymstock began to give away some silly penalties for off side and not releasing in the tackle.

Dan Quick, the home team's flyhalf, converted two to give Wiveliscombe an 11-0 lead.

Will Ellis, Captain for the day with Frank Norman still on the injury list, crossed for Wivey's second try after a period of  pressure from the home forwards, and Dan Quick converted.

Plymstock stand out player was No8 Peter Keane and he scored the visitors' first points with a penalty after Wivey failed to release in the tackle. Young centre Will Thorne showed a good burst of speed to evade several Plymstock defenders to cross for Wiveliscombe's third try.

Plymstock continued to create the odd chance and scored their first try with Deon Todd finishing off a driving maul. Peter Keanie converted.

Wiveliscombe finished the first half strongly with Sam Gibbs proving too strong and quick for the visitors' defence, and he crossed for two more tries to put Wivey in a strong position at half time.

Playing up the slope in the second half, Wivey had to work hard to add to their score which came from two Dan Smyth Moore tries with one being converted by Dan Quick. Plymstock to their credit created an opportunity and were rewarded with a try from centre Corey Jamison with a strong run to complete the scoring.

Wiveliscombe returned to fourth position in the Western Counties League with three other teams within four points.

Morganians RFC 14 Wiveliscombe 2nd XV 8

Wiveliscombe traveled to Bridgwater looking for a much needed victory after a difficult period over the last month.

Morganians have also been struggling and are a couple of places below Wivey in the Somerset Three division.

Wiveliscombe did secure a losing bonus point with a try from Bertie Eyres and a penalty from Ben Luxton.

Wiveliscombe's 150th anniversary match was played at the recreation ground on Sunday 27th with the Taunton School past players team proving too strong for the Wivey team who found the visitors a handful over the eighty minutes.

A lunch before the game was enjoyed by Wiveliscombe past Captains and  club officials with Taunton School teachers associated with the rugby club both past and present reminiscing over past years during which the link between Wiveliscombe and Taunton School has remained strong. The next anniversary will be in 2047 which will hopefully remain a day to remember for both teams.
