Powerful young defender Ollie Tomlinson has signed on loan at Taunton Town from Torquay United.

Tomlinson, 20, came through the Plymouth Argyle Academy, having first joined the Home Park youth system as an under-13. He made his professional debut for the Pilgrims against Norwich City U21 in the EFL Trophy in September 2020.

The Ivybridge-born centre-back gained further experience in loan stints with Barnstaple Town and Truro City before making his Football League debut in a 3-1 defeat to Sunderland in May 2021.

Tomlinson was released by Argyle at the end of last season and was soon snapped up by Torquay United, but has found opportunities limited under the management of Gary Johnson and assistant Aaron Downes at Plainmoor, especially with the Gulls fighting hard to escape the National League relegation zone.

Head of Football Rob Dray told the club website: ”Ollie has great experience for someone so young and will give us good cover in several positions. Many thanks to Gary and Downesy at Torquay for sorting this.”

Tomlinson will be a very useful option for the Peacocks and a young defender blessed with impressive composure on the ball could be a major asset in the National League South.
