After an enforced break of over a month racing action returned to Taunton on Tuesday afternoon, and after passing a precautionary early morning inspection punters were treated to another good afternoon of National Hunt action.

The big race of the day the Arthur and Peggy White Memorial Handicap Steeple Chase over a furlong short of three miles looked to be going to the David Pipe trained Neon Moon who’d gone off at 3-1.

Coming over the last the Pipe horse led by three lengths and those with money on him were almost reaching for their betting slips and making the way to the bookies, only for Dead Right the outsider of the field at 14-1 to come up on the inside rail and win by half a length.

The final event was won by Almost Gotaway trained by Exmoor based Nicky Martin, her first winner at the Orchard Portman course since Inspiratrice triumphed at 200-1 on December 30.

Taunton race next on Tuesday February 21 when the first race on the card that has a big prize fund of over £68,600 on offer is due off at 2pm.

Racegoers are reminded that on the day prior to the start of the Cheltenham Festival Taunton are hosting a Free Raceday, tickets for which must be applied for on-line before Monday March 6.

Punters are reminded to purchase their tickets on-line in advance to take advantage of the generous discounts on offer.
