Taunton Town 0-2 Farnborough

TAUNTON Town were left humbled at home after Farnborough recorded an impressive 0-2 victory on Tuesday night.

The hosts were for large parts out of possession and failed to take their chances as Farnborough cruised to victory.

The Peacocks were without Nick McCootie and in-form Dave Sims-Burgess up front meaning that Nat Jarvis was the lone striker with Ross Stearn playing off him.

Right from the off it was clear that Taunton were weaker up front as Stearn struggled to win the aerial balls sent his way from the Town defence.

That being said, Stearn still caused problems at times for the Farnborough defence, however not enough to grab a goal.

In the early exchanges it was the visitors who were on top with chances as they overloaded the right hand side of the pitch.

This resulted in a number of crosses and even a long throw, all of which saw striker Harry Parsons get on the end of and either force a save or hit narrowly wide.

Taunton weren't without chances though as Jarvis hit the post from a back post volley and soon after Jake Wannell rose highest from a corner, he too hitting the post.

The first half played out mostly in Taunton's half as Farnborough were on the charge forward.

There were a few breakaway chances for Taunton but again, the midfield was struggling to link play from defence to attack.

At halftime the scores remained 0-0 and in the early exchanges of the second half, the visitors came out firing.

They created three early chances, all in the same way, one of the wingers beat his marker and crossed low into the box.

It wasn't a shock then when the visitors broke the deadlock after 54 minutes when Harry Parsons netted at the near post from a right wing cross.

Soon after, the Peacocks found the woodwork again, Borough keeper Jack Turner pushing Ross Stearn’s shot onto a post.

The points were sealed when Parsons scored his second goal of the night on 76 minutes, drilling home into the far corner after Selim Saied’s effort had been cleared off the line, to secure the League double for the visitors.

Overall it was a poor performance from Taunton who looked off the pace and were well beaten by a better side.

A sentiment agreed with by head of football Rob Dray, he said after the match: "Sometimes you just have to hold your hands up.

"We were well beaten tonight, the better side won. They came here and did a job on us really, all credit to them.

"We have to be better than that in this division, we know that, but sometimes you just get beaten."

This home defeat was just Taunton's second loss at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium in the Vanarama National League South season.

They face Havant and Waterlooville this weekend away from home and then return home on Tuesday night against Oxford City.
