THE weather held off on Sunday long enough for Taunton Ladies to take on Exeter Saracens for their long-awaited rematch.

This time Exeter faced a much stronger and more experienced Taunton team which led to some amazing development rugby being played.

Both teams were low on subs so the game was divided into 4 quarters. The first quarter was dominated by the visitors while Taunton settled themselves into a rhythm they knew they could work with.

The second quarter showed a much more dominant Taunton with their defensive line holding back Exeter from scoring any points. With the last few minutes on the clock Taunton fought for the try line and slipped past a strong Exeter defence to score.

The second half started as strong as the first half finished there was no easy runs this time for Exeter and they had to work for every inch of the field they gained.

Sadly the strong legs and quick thinking of Exeters number 13 proved too much and she slipped the defence and scored, twice in quick succession.

Taunton were not to be beaten in the last remaining minutes however as some amazing phases of rugby edged them closer and closer to the line when the dominant Taunton Forwards suddenly pushed it over for a try.

The last 15 minutes were just as exciting as the rest of the match with the spectators now getting excited with what they were watching, cheering and encouragement could be heard all around the pitch.

The game was an amazing demonstration of development rugby and Taunton showed Exeter a different team to what they encountered in December.

Sadly a loss to Taunton but experience and fun was had by all. Come the final whistle there were still smiles on the faces of all the ladies involved.
