AFTER Taunton Town's last home match on Tuesday which ended in 1-3 defeat to Weymouth, manager Rob Dray said it is important to focus on the bigger picture.

He drew attention to the fact that with their limited squad size and small budget, Taunton Town have exceeded most expectations this season.

Add to it, it was the first time the club have played in the National League South - it has been a strong season.

"To get the points total needed for us to stay up is absolutely phenomenal. It is a huge feat in this league and in our first season.

"I have nothing but admiration for our players and staff. I truly love this squad of players, they have all bought into the goals and we have got the job done.

"It is important to focus on the bigger picture here. We have done what we set out to do."

On the Weymouth match, Dray added that his side perhaps were off the pace.

"We were very generous in this match and gave away some easy goals really.

"It was a difficult match but we let them get the better of us. Disappointed really with the result but fair play to Weymouth."

He also said the players have really been run into the ground this season.

"My squad are out on their feet, still only have 12 players fit but it isn't an excuse. We had enough to beat Weymouth.

"It has been a long hard season and in particular been a long 12 weeks. We have played half a season in just 12 weeks. It has been difficult."

Looking forward, Dray said attention will switch to the final match away against Chelmsford.

"Another tough match is set for Saturday, Chelmsford will need the points to get certain spots in the playoffs so there is something to play for.

"We will go there concentrating hard on trying to finish strong. It will be good to finish the season on a high and that is what we will set out to do."

That match kicks off at 3pm on Saturday, April 29 in Chelmsford.
