SOMERSET have progressed to the final of the Vitality Blast after a 24 run victory over Surrey in the Semi-Final.

Craig Overton and his fellow bowlers starred in the win after what seemed like a poor batting effort, but it is clear that the pitch is a low scoring one.

Surrey won the toss and elected to field, leaving Somerset openers Will Smeed and Tom Banton to take on Sam Curran in the first over.

That first over was a tense one, as Banton hit two shots that could have been caught, on of which slipped past Jamie Overton at first slip for four.

Smeed scored 10 off the second over, hitting one big six, and Somerset had 18 runs on the board at this stage for no wickets lost.

The pair worked the score to 38 and were looking settled when Smeed nicked the ball to the keeper and was dismissed after review at the start of the fifth over.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore replaced him and hit a four past second slip on his first ball. That was before he was caught behind, but it wasn’t given – a lucky escape.

The powerplay finished in the midway point of the sixth over, due to the rain delay, and at the end of the sixth, Somerset were 49 for 1.

The next over saw Banton hit an impressive ramp shot for six, before he was caught behind ending on 26 runs. Somerset were 55 for 2.

Tom Abell and Tom Kohler-Cadmore helped take the total to 73 for 2, after 9 overs, however the wickets kept falling.

Kohler-Cadmore was next to go and Sean Dickson joined Abell in the middle.

Dickson managed to hold on until the end, helping Somerset set the target at 142 for 7, and Dickson top scored with 30 runs.

It looked a poor effort from Somerset, however you need to see both teams bat before you judge a score.

And the Somerset bowlers made sure to show how good they are in the second innings.

In reply, Surrey needed 7.5 runs an over, and they got off to a shaky start as Craig Overton dismissed Laurie Evans in the first over.

The shaky start didn't stop, in fact, Somerset looked in control for the 19 overs.

Somerset stopped Surrey from getting any momentum and it has to be said that it was a mammoth bowling effort.

Craig Overton took three wickets for 24 runs and two catches (including catching out his brother Jamie) in his four overs.

Leading wicket taker in the Blast, Ben Green continued his form as he took three wickets, as did Matt Henry.

Truly a huge win for Somerset after what was a slow start with the bat. Essex is next in the final.
