WELLINGTON have had a mixed start to their season in the Toolstation Western League having picked up one point in their opening two fixtures.

On Saturday, in the league opener, Wellington came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw away to Helston Athletic.

Then on Tuesday night, Wellington went down 2-0 away from home against Shepton Mallet.

In the match on Saturday, Wellington were two goals down at half time and managed an impressive comeback in the second period.

Goals came from James Cottrill and Jack Bown-Porter to seal the comeback.

Richard Cherry said after the Shepton Mallet defeat: "I was very disappointed with the result but I am still pleased with how we applied ourselves.

"It is a work in progress, we have got the makings of a good squad it may just take time this season."

The club has also made two new signings to bolster the squad for the rest of the season.

Midfielder Josh Lukins, 21, has signed on after playing for both Axminster Town and Bishops Lydeard.

The second new signing is 6ft 5in central defender Jordan Hayman, 20, who joins from Bishops Lydeard.

Both players were in the squad on Tuesday night but will look to gel better with the team during the come fixtures.

Next up is an Emirates FA Cup tie versus Bideford on Saturday with the game being played at Willand Rovers because of cricket at the Playing Field.
