National League South: Aveley 4-1 Taunton Town

TAUNTON Town were on the receiving end of a heavy defeat on Saturday (Auugust 12) away from home against Aveley.

The newly promoted side were too good for the Peacocks running our 4-1 winners in the National League South match.

The hosts were able to break down the Taunton defence easily at times as the visitors struggled to deal with the 3G pitch.

Aveley took the lead in the 19th minute when Siju Odelusi scored from the penalty spot after Cam Evans brought a man down in the box.

The game settled after this and Taunton looked to gain an upper hand at times.

In the 41st minute the scores were level when Malachi Linton capitalised on a loose pass and scored his first league goal for the Peacocks.

However as the fourth official indicated there would be four minutes of added time, Odelusi put Aveley back in front with his second of the afternoon.

In the second period, the hosts kept the pressure on and created more chances.

In the 65th minute it was 3-1 after great run from Kenny Aileru who squared the ball to Charlee Hughes who poked it home.

From there, the game dwindled a bit as Aveley looked to hold on to the 3-1 lead and secure three points.

However, Odelusi had the last say as he completed his hattrick with a corner that sailed into the top corner in extra time and the match finished 4-1.

Up next, the Peacocks are away from home on Tuesday night against Weymouth.

Taunton return to Wordsworth Drive to take on Welling United on Saturday, August 19, kick off 3pm.
