National League South: Weymouth 1-1 Taunton Town

TAUNTON Town had to come from behind to earn a point on the road against Weymouth on Tuesday (August 15) night.

Dylan Morgan scored the important goal for the Peacocks as they clawed back for a draw in the National League South match.

The result means that after the opening three games, Town have won one, drawn one and lost one and sit in 15th spot in the league table.

In the opening exchanges of the match the home side were well on top.

However the early pressure wore off and Taunton began to create opportunities of their own.

Ollie Chamberlain and Nat Jarvis both went close in the first 20 minutes.

However Weymouth did take the lead before the break when a corner to the back post was headed home by Dan Roberts in the 36th minute.

That was the only score of the half and at the break the score was 1-0 to the hosts.

In the second period, a refreshed Taunton looked to retake control of the match.

And in the 63rd minute Taunton thought they had a goal back when summer signing Marcus Day found the back of the net before it was ruled out for offside.

Two minutes later though and the Peacocks did have the eqaulising goal through Dylan Morgan. He found himself one-on-one with the keeper and dribbled round him to finish into an empty net.

From there the chances started to run dry but there was a late scare for Taunton as Weymouth found themselves on a promising breakaway play which was cleared away just in time.

All in all an improved performance for Taunton after their defeat away at Aveley at the weekend.

Up next for Taunton is a return home on Saturday, August 19 against Welling in what will be a game that three points may be expected with the visitors yet to earn a point in the league.

That match kicks off at 3pm at Wordsworth Drive.
