National League South: Chippenham Town 3-3 Taunton Town

A LATE, late show earned Taunton Town a draw in an enthralling encounter against Chippenham Town that saw the Peacocks overturn a two-goal deficit.

Taunton started brightly, but it was Chippenham that opened the scoring in the eighth minute through Nat Williams' deflected effort from distance.

The Bluebirds doubled their lead 10 minutes later, when Owen Windsor danced through the Taunton defence to create room to shoot. This time, it was Ollie Chamberlain who was unlucky to deflect the ball beyond Dan Lavercombe.

Chippenham made it to half-time with their 2-0 lead intact, despite Freddie Grant being sent off after picking up two yellow cards in quick succession; one for taking too long with a throw-in, and the second for a challenge on Chamberlain.

Taunton pulled a goal back early in the second period through Nat Jarvis' header, but Chippenham looked to have won it when they restored their two-goal lead in the 85th minute, when Luke Spokes fired the ball home from distance.

Ross Stearn set up a nervy finish moments later when he scored after rounding Will Henry, before Chamberlain rifled home in the fifth minute of added time to send the Peacocks back to Somerset with a hard-earned point.

On Saturday, Taunton picked up an impressive 1-0 win at home to Dartford

Lavercombe was forced into an early save before Taunton fans felt their side should have had a penalty in the 17th minute, when striker Nat Jarvis appeared to be pushed in the back, but the referee waved it away.

In the second half, substitute Sims-Burgess was straight into the action as he found some space in the box to launch a shot narrowly wide.

Dartford had a great chance in the 59th minute and looked certain to score, but an incredible save from Lavercombe parried the ball wide.

Then, in the 62nd minute, Sims-Burgess put the Peacocks in front when he headed home from close range after a superb Chamberlain cross.

It should have been 2-0 just minutes later after Lloyd James played in Chamberlain, but his shot skipped off the post from close range.

Taunton's back line was able to cope with late pressure from the Dartford defence. Captain Nick Grimes, Cameron Evans and Booth all had strong games at centre back which helped the hosts hold on to a 1-0 win.
