THE rain may have put paid to any play on the second day of Somerset’s last home championship match against Kent last week, but that mattered little to those who gathered in The Old Blundellians Box to celebrate Somerset winning the Vitality Blast T20 Cup earlier this summer.
Andy Caddick and James Hildreth who both played for Somerset when they first won the competition back in 2005 joined the members and guests to help mark the occasion.
After a most enjoyable lunch provided by the Somerset CCC catering team Caddy and Hildy recounted some of their memories of that special day at the Oval 18 years ago, when T20 cricket was in its infancy , and underdogs Somerset beat odds on favourites Lancashire who included Freddie Flintoff, Stuart Law and Andrew Symonds in their line up.
In addition the former Somerset favourites answered questions from those present about a whole range of cricketing subjects- during which the PA announcer told everyone that play had been abandoned for the day, which may have been the case for those outside but for those gathered at this function the occasion went on for sometime afterwards!
