National League South: Bath City 3-0 Taunton Town

TAUNTON Town suffered their second successive Vanarama National League South defeat after they went down 3-0 at Bath City on Tuesday evening (October 24).

Perhaps the story of the match was former Taunton Town keeper Will Buse keeping a clean sheet against his former team just a day after signing on loan for Bath City.

The result sees Taunton drop down to fourth place in the National League South table and Bath jump in front of them into second place.

It proved a disappointing outcome to a game in which the Peacocks more than matched the hosts during a goalless first half.

In fact, Taunton started the stronger of the two sides and had some solid chances to score in the early exchanges.

Nat Jarvis, Zach Smith and Ross Stearn were all able to force a save from the former Peacock Buse in the Bath goal.

Stearn came closest to scoring when his shot hit the post in the 33rd minute and a follow up shot from Jay Foulston was well saved by Buse.

Despite the chances though, the score remained 0-0 at half time which would have suited Bath much more.

The visitors were unable to maintain their performance in the second half which was a different affair.

Right from the start of the second period, Bath were on the front foot and causing the Town back five problems.

The home side went in front when Jordan Thomas scored with outstanding finish after cutting in from the right and finding the corner with style.

From this point on, for the remainder of the half Bath were well in control.

A free kick from Thomas was fumbled by Peacocks’ keeper Dan Lavercombe on 78 minutes and fell nicely for Scott Wilson to head home a second.

And that was just two minutes before Danny Greenslade drilled a 20-yard rocket into the far corner to send Bath three goals in front.

The 1,573 strong crowd filled with home fans were very vocal in their support for the Bath side.

All in all a disappointing display for Taunton and wraps up the worst week so far in the 2023/24 season for the Peacocks. Back to back defeats.

Still plenty of football to be played this season though and this result can't be dwelled on for long as Taunton are back in action this weekend ahead.

They travel away from home to Chelmsford on Saturday, October 28 for a 3pm kick off.

It will be another tricky battle though with Chelmsford currently in ninth place on the table and are coming into the game on the back of two draws.

Taunton are next at home on Saturday, November 4 when Farnborough come to Wordsworth Drive.
