National League South: Chelmsford City 0-0 Taunton Town

TAUNTON Town had to settle for a point in their away match against Chelmsford City at the weekend in the National League South.

Neither side were able to find the back of the net as the game ended 0-0 in front of a strong crowd.

It was the Peacocks first point in three Vanarama National League South games, snapping a two game losing run, however it does see them drop to seventh in the league table.

The game was limited in chances but Taunton did look the better side in the first half.

In the third minute in fact, Zac Smith hooked a ball over the defence and Dylan Morgan ran on to it before knocking down to Jay Foulston but his shot goes over the bar.

There were more chances for the Peacocks with Nick McCootie and Ollie Chamberlain both forcing a save.

However Chelmsford were not without opportunities themselves. In the 17th minute Chelmsford delivered a long throw from the far side directly onto the penalty spot, but the glancing header was caught easily by Dan Lavercombe.

Morgan had the best chance of the half soon after but he was denied by City keeper Josh Oluwayemi.

At the break it remained 0-0, not for the want of trying, and the crowd was getting restless.

The home side picked up their game after the break but the Town defence stood firm throughout.

In the 59th minute, Chelmsford thought they had a penalty after one of their players hit the deck in the box however the referee waved it away.

Dave Sims-Burgess and Ross Stearn came on for Dylan Morgan and Nick McCootie and looked to make an instant impact in the 75th minute.

However the home side stayed in control and looked like they might just steal the win late on.

A superb tip over save from keeper Dan Lavercombe during stoppage time from Henry Ochieng’s deflected shot preserved parity.

All in all a strong point on the long trip to Essex and a point that will hopefully spur them back into a winning run.

As mentioned though, the Peacocks slip to 7th following this stalemate and now have a blank week before Farnborough visit Wordsworth Drive next Saturday.

That game kicks off at 3pm on Saturday, November 4. Get down and support your local side as they look to continue on this strong season.
