TAUNTON Town Football Club captain Nick Grimes is one match away from hitting the very impressive 150 start for the club.

This coming Saturday, at home against Farnborough, the ever-reliable centre back will reach that milestone.

In total, Grimes has made 120 starts in the league and 29 in cup competitions, for a total of 149 starts.

If you include sub appearances, Grimes has 34 of those, but this weekend will be his 150th game starting for the Peacocks.

Nick is current team captain, having been appointed ahead of the truncated 2020-21 season, and since then he has led the team tremendously.

The centre half signed for the club in August 2019 from local rivals Tiverton Town, however his career began at Exeter City where he progressed through the ranks and played for the club’s Under 18 side.

The captain has enjoyed plenty of success in his time at Wordsworth Drive too.

He led the team to the Southern League title in the 2021/22 season in which he was one of the standout players.

In the club's first season in the National League South, Grimes played 3,564 minutes and was a mainstay throughout the year.

And has of course, taken Taunton to the the highest position in the clubs history when they were in top spot in the National League South.

What is well known is Grimes' admiration for Taunton Town Football Club.

He said after the Southern League success a couple of seasons ago: "I have played for a couple of clubs around this level and the boys in our squad have too, I think this is the best non-league club I know of."

"It has top facilities, great staff both in the coaching team and backroom staff, top quality fans who go home and away, we are lucky here."

Alongside Grimes, Jay Foulston and Zac Smith have both made 98 starts for the club, so the pair is close to hitting a ton in Peacocks colours.

Of course, as good as these milestones are for the group of Taunton players, there is a long way to go for them to reach club legend Lloyd Irish's total. He has played 386 times for the Peacocks.

And special mention to Taunton local Ollie Chamberlain, who has made 322 appearances (starting and sub) for his hometown club. 'He's one of our own...'
