National League South: Taunton Town 4-0 Farnborough

TAUNTON Town recorded their first win in seven Vanarama National League South outings on Saturday (December 10) at home to Farnborough.

It was a comprehensive 4-0 victory over a strong team at a cold and windy Somerset Campervan Co Stadium in Taunton.

After what had been a week filled with negative rumours off the pitch, the players showed on it that they are well and truly up for the challenge and were at their best.

The result and three points sees Taunton sit in 14th place in the league table and Farnborough in 13th, one point above the Peacocks.

In the match, Town were soon into the groove and made an early breakthrough after just five minutes when Ollie Chamberlain drilled home a great finish after Farnborough had failed to clear.

There were chances for both sides in the moments that followed the opening goal and despite being in front, Taunton were not yet in control of the match.

It was almost 2-0 half way through the first period when Zac Smith’s shot hit the post but the visitors were creating themselves.

Farnborough had a chance that hit the post at the opposite end which caused a scare however Taunton rallied further.

The hosts doubled their lead seven minutes before the break through Lloyd James who seized on a loose ball to float a beauty over keeper Jack Turner from 25 yards.

That meant at half time the score was 2-0 and the home crowd of near 650 people were in full voice for the Peacocks.

In the second half the home side were out for more goals and they moved the ball quickly high up the pitch in search of them.

Ross Stearn added a third on the hour after he diverted in Chamberlain’s goalward drive for another great goal.

The pressure continued and by now, the Peacocks were well and truly on top and in control of the match.

They were keeping possession well and creating a number of chances throughout the second half.

To give credit to Farnborough they too had some chances but they were unable to match the direct passing that Taunton were deploying in order to get forward.

More goals looked to be on the cards as the Peacocks forced a couple of saves later on in the match.

And to cap off a fine afternoon’s work, Cameron Evans made it 4-0 five minutes from time when he slotted into an open net from Stearn’s cross.

The 4-0 score line is Taunton Town's biggest ever win to date in the National League South.

Up next they are set to take on Weston-super-Mare at home on Tuesday, December 12 at 7.45pm.
