National League South: Slough Town 3-0 Taunton Town

TAUNTON Town's new look team were beaten on the road against Slough Town in the National League South on Saturday, January 6.

In the match, the hosts were too strong for Taunton and could have run in more goals if it weren't for some last ditch defending from the Peacocks.

In the squad, new signing Louie Slough made his debut, while Rabby Tabu-Minzamba made his first start for some months. The bench was filled with just four players.

The hosts looked to press high up the pitch early on and created a number of chances inside the first ten minutes.

It should have been 1-0 on ten minutes when a dangerous cross from Ogbonna into the box found an unmarked Slough player who hit a tame shot towards the goal.

Shortly after, Nathan Minhas was found in the box with a free header, but a great save from Dan Lavercombe denied the hosts an opener.

Taunton had their first chance of the match on 19 minutes when Tabu-Minzamba played in Ollie Chamberlain on the right, who breezed past his man and crossed but it was deflected out.

From the resulting corner a training ground routine nearly worked as the corner hit Nat Jarvis at the front post, who flicked it back to Nick Grimes on the back post but his header went narrowly over the bar.

Chances came and went for both sides but in the 36th minute the deadlock was broken as Slough took a quick corner which was played into Minhas completely unmarked and he side footed it in.

In to the second period and Taunton made an early change on 53 minutes as Marcus Day replaced Slough who had enjoyed a solid enough debut.

The Peacocks had a goal ruled out for offside on 60 minutes; Chamberlain flicked it onto Jarvis at the back post and he put the ball into the back of the net but was offside.

Lavercombe was making save after save at this point but in the 77th minute his resolve was broken when Sundire fired in from some distance to beat the keeper at the near post for 2-0.

And then in the 86th minute it was 3-0 to the home side when Spasov netted from inside the box to wrap up the win for Slough.

All in all a tough day on the road for the Peacocks who did put in a spirited display but were undone by the better side.
