SOMERSET Football Association and the Somerset Activity & Sports Partnership (SASP) are proposing a girls-only referee course in the county.

The FA has said there is a need for referees every single week in Somerset and the Somerset Girls League would be one that benefits from having female role models in the middle of the pitch.

The course would be open to women and girls aged 14 and up and will award a nationally recognised qualification as a Level 7 referee.

If you or someone you know might be interested head to https://www.sasp.co.uk/forms/view/girlsrefereeexpression.

The course would require a heavily-subsidised upfront costs and would be one day of in-person delivery at a central Somerset venue between April - July 2024.

A spokesperson from SASP said: "Working alongside Somerset FA, we're collecting expressions of interest for a Girls-only referee course to be held in Somerset.

"The more responses, the higher the likelihood of a course taking place!"
