Bishops Lydeard Association Football Club (BLAFC) has announced a new sponsor that will support women’s football in the village.

Barratt David Wilson Homes South West’s £650 sponsorship has enabled BLAFC to buy new kit for the Club’s Ladies structure.

The relationship came about after one of Barratt David Wilson Homes South West’s colleagues approached the volunteer-run Club with an ambition to help empower and encourage local young female talent.

The Ladies section at BLAFC which competes in the South West Regional Women's Football League - Premier division, takes on opponents from Gloucester to Cornwall.

Gary Brown, chairman at BLAFC, said: “During the current economic climate, funding has become more crucial than ever as like many other businesses, our club has seen an escalation in bills and financial demands.

"The sponsorship from Barratt David Wilson Homes South West will allow us to invest back into the facility, ensure we can continue to provide opportunities for aspiring footballers and enhance the overall experience for our female players."

Barratt David Wilson Homes South West’s sales director, Louise Ware, added: “BLAFC is a well-established club in the heart of the local community that for decades has provided opportunities for football enthusiasts of all ages and genders.

"Its commitment to nurture young talent and promote football in the region has made it a beloved institution among sports fans and we couldn’t be more proud show our support of the Ladies’ team. We wish them the best of luck for the remainder of the season.”
